Whitefriars College
Whitefriars College # 01680G a Catholic Secondary Education for boys. The College is owned and operated by the Carmelites, an ancient religious order of the church. The tradition of the Carmelites creates the context in which the college educates young men to live with integrity and to strive for excellence in all that they do.
The college founded in 1961 in Donvale Melbourne, approximately 27 km eastern far from the city, in the peace and tranquillity of twenty hectares of natural bushland. The boys from Year seven to twelve are educated in a caring and challenging atmosphere by the Carmelite order and lay staff.
With a current student population exceeding 1,100 students with up to 50 international students, Whitefriars offers a broad curriculum, ensuring that the interests and talents of all students are catered for. They are encouraged to achieve their best possible academic results adn given every support to do so. Guidance about entrance to University careers is also provided, along with regular reporting to parents. Students proceed directly to tertiary education and many continue to postgraduate study.
For the international students, Whitefriars College offer the orientation and Intensive Bridging Program designed to meet the needs of international studnets as they commence their life and study in Australia and at Whitefriars College. The students usually spend one semester at the school in the Bridging Program before they enter mainstream classes.
Whitefriars College provides an excellent Homestay Program to the students. All student have been placed in College approved Homestays with the interviews and selects families and homes considered suitable. Furthermore the student is met at the airport on the first arrival, introduced to the family and helped during the important settling in period. Assistance is given to purchase uniform and books and to open a bank account.
The director of Homestay program is available to families and students for guidance and assistance during the term of the placement. Homestay families are carefully chosen and screened. The Homestay parents must have a working with children check and police checks are carried out for all members of the family over 18 years.
